Daylesford bounces to life

The beauty of burlesque will be on show in Daylesford over the Melbourne Cup weekend as the town comes alive with the inaugural bOunceFest.

The festival, which runs from Friday 29 – Sunday 31 October, kicks off on the Friday night at the stunning Convent Galley with Domestic Burlesque – the latest work from photographer Tim Burder.

The night is a culmination of a six-month journey with the Ripe Burlesque Troupe. The final components of this rich photo-documentary will be taken as the performance occurs, processed and placed on display to complete the exhibition.

The aim of this project is to present not only the performance aspect of the troupe but also the real lives of the participants. The idea is to follow the family life and the rehearsals of the participants in a photo-documentary manner.

bOunceFest has activities for all ages.  As well as Domestic Burlesque, there will be burlesque dance workshops, DJ skills workshops and a no-holds barred dance party. The cream of Daylesford’s dance DJs will be performing on Saturday night alongside local funksters ZebraHeard! featuring Geoffrey Williams who will be launching their debut CD on the night.

Sunday takes a mellow turn with a family and youth-oriented day of live music and activities. Featuring up and coming Daylesford bands Reds Under the Bed and The Vets, a host of youth DJs, children’s  dance and arts workshops and a jumping castle during the day.

Local band Starry Crown Sound System will take Sunday evening into serious cruise mode, with a few laid back DJs finishing the night off.

bOunceFest features a diverse range of talent from Daylesford; its about fusing a variety of arts and cultural forms such as photography, dance and music through collaborations between local artists, musicians and our members. From the tease of Burlesque to the raw energy of up and coming youth band Reds Under the Bed, bOunceFest its a little like “Big Day Out” meets “The Cotton Club”.

Weekend and VIP Tickets for bOunceFest can be purchased online or at Red Star Cafe, Horvat’s, Perfect Drop or through Bouncefest organisers. Tickets are also available on the door. Full details available at: www.bouncefestival.com
