Domestic Burlesque is the latest work from photographer Tim Burder.
Be part of the photographic journey: the evolution of Ripe Burlesque Dance Troupe with an evening of dance, music and photography. The night is a culmination of a six months journey with the Ripe Burlesque Troupe. The final components of this rich photodocumentary will be taken as the performance occurs, processed and placed on display to complete the exhibition.
Currently, there is a tourism marketing campaign to promote the Daylesford region with the catch phrase “lead a double life” A visually incongruous sight at first glance perhaps – a burlesque group in Daylesford made up of mothers, teachers, dancers and businesswomen… truly a double life!
The aim of this project is to present not only the performance aspect of the troupe but also the real lives of the participants. The idea is to follow the family life and the rehearsals of the participants in a photodocumentary manner.
The opening of the exhibition will feature there performances by Ripe Burlesque Troupe itself while being photographed, immediately printed and put on display to complete the photographic part of the exhibition.
The idea is both the photographic and burlesque art forms become entwined to such a point that the photo-documentary exhibition becomes like burlesque itself – it teases and may not reveal all.
